IMG_1243_slope.jpg Construction work on fitting two archimedes screws on a new hydro electric project on the River Leven, at Low Wood near Haverthwaite, Cumbria, UK. When operational they will generate over 400 Kw of green electricity. When operational they will be the largest archimedes screws in the UK. The project uses the old mill race that used to power the gunpowder factory. Heat generated by the turbines, that is usually lost to the atmosphere is going to be pumped directly into a nearby office building. At times when the hydro is not working the offices will be heated by 4 air source heat pumps.
