It is an exceptinal green building, whose individual housing units will have a low carbon footprint. The whole block is heated by a biofuel boiler. During construction it used recycled oil rig pipes for piling, the concrete was mixed with recycled agregate, super insulated with earth wool, it uses grey recycled water to save water, locally sourced timber, the electricity for the building is sourced from renewable sources and the buidling incorporates Swift bird boxs and bat boxs. Residents are encouraged to car share and use local organic vegetable box schemes.

IMG_3304_interior.jpg Turbines in Murray 1 power station. Murray 1 is the 2nd largest power station in the Snowy mountains hydro scheme. It has 10, 95 megawatt turbine generators. Each turbine can generate enough electricity to power 95,000 homes. The whole snwy hydro scheme generates an average of 4500 gigwatt hours per year and produces 11% of Australias electricity. Sadly nearly all the rest of Australias power generation is from coal fired power stations. The scheme also provides 2360 gigalitres of irrigation water.

It calves enough ice in one day to supply New York with water for one year. It is one of the fastest moving glaciers in the world at up to 40 metres per day (19 metres per day before 2002) and has also receeded rapidly (40 km since 1850) due to human induced climate change as temperatures have risen in Greenland by 9 degrees fahrenheit in the last 60 years. An underwater moraine at the mouth of the fjord grounds the largest icebergs causing a backlog of ice completely blocking the entire length of the fjord with ice.
